Boulder City
1 Clubhouse Dr., 702-293-9236
Boulder City is a small, very pleasant community just 25 miles south of Las
Vegas going east to the Boulder Dam and Lake Mead. Two more golf courses are
under construction as I am writing this. They are nearing completion. The one
mentioned above is a par 72 - 6,561 (70.4/110). Go to the only traffic light in
town, next to the Vons market and turn right about 1/2 mile. If you miss it I
can call you a poor driver/navigator. |

The rates at this course are dirt cheap. I have seen them as low as $15. As a
consequence the place is totally overrung.
If you are playing at the Washington Street side of the course you could take a
peek across the street. That's where Siegrfried and Roy have a place.
At Decatur and Washington. Not a bad place, but real busy. The back nine has
absolutely huge fairways. Walk or ride. Last I checked it was about $35 for
eighteen holes. You need a tee time here, this place is very popular with the
locals. I think it is run by Jim Colbert. Par 72 - 6,631 (71.8/117). Some par
5's, but they are reachable. If you think you are a good player then go for the
course record. It is 58 in case you are interested. A guy by the name of Monte
Money shot it years ago and no one has gotten close since. The facilities are
new on account of a renovation a year ago.
I still don't know how anybody can shoot a 58, even on this course. |
Pahrump
This is a small, very fast growing town south of Las Vegas. Take the
Blue Diamond turn-off from I-15 and go west about 65 miles. Two courses, one
regulation, one executive. I like them both. Dirt cheap (so far). I have always
been able to play there even without a tee time. Or you can stop for lunch at
the only winery in Nevada. The winery is on the north side of the road as you
drive in from Las Vegas. Very nice place. (Tel: 775-727-6900 or 1-800-368-WINE
for the winery.)

Here is some good news for all you male golfers. Females too now, as of this
year I think.
Keep driving through the town of Pahrump for a couple of miles until you get to
the city limits. That takes you to a different county, I think it is Lander
County.Look to your left and you will see a sign that says Sheri's Ranch. It is
really on Homestead Road. It is not a real ranch although there is a lot of
riding going on. Not on horses. Just make sure you have cash, I don't know if
credit cards are accepted.
As always, enjoy our state and the many things it has to offer. |
