McCormick &
Schmick's Seafood Restaurant
In a very nice, freestanding building in the Hughes Center, a rather large
commercial development on the corner of E. Flamingo and Paradise Rd. Ideally
located for conventioneers (the convention center is about one mile North). It
is also very reachable from the strip. The intersection of Flamingo and the
Strip is about one mile West. A very expensively appointed dinner house with a
large number of tables. It is all done in dark reds and browns, with the use of
lots of wood (or wood veneer). Reminds me somewhat of the old Brown Derby in
Los Angeles. We arrived at about six oclock and were seated almost immediately.
I did notice a full page of reservations. This restaurant is not cheap
(inexpensive). Everything on the menu is a' la carte. A small dinner salad for
instance will run $5.20 (why the twenty cents I haven't figured out yet, unless
it has something to do with sales tax). The menu is very extensive and features
lots of different seafood items, some of them flown in from exotic places like
Peru, Chile and Hawaii. There is no entree on the menu less than $15, a la
carte as I said before. So, a dinner with drinks and appetisers etc. can easily
run $50 and more. I had the baked salmon with mashed potatoes and fresh
asparagus. I noticed a lot of the entrees were being advertised with fresh
asparagus as the vegetable. I have nothing against that but a little more
variety in that department could'nt hurt. The potatoes were very tasty but
somewhat heavy. The salmon was excellent. It had a fruit sauce, I think it was
blueberry. The appetiser plate cost us $180. It had some shrimp, calamari, crab
cakes, popcorn shrimp etc. Very expensive fare. It was meant for five people.
There is an extensive wine list and a good selection of beers. Some very nice
desserts were also being offered. I can't recall anything under $5, but that is
to be expected. I found our waiter a bit annoying. He had been trained to sell,
sell, sell. Really a bit much. In conclusion then: a good meal albeit rather
expensive. |
